It is:Īnd you can navigate there quickly from Finder with Cmd+Shift+G and typing the file path. Just mentioning it as something to think about.įinally, coming from Windows you’ll want to familiarize yourself with where Blender’s preference files reside on the Mac. Will you be using software such as Deep Freeze to keep the computers booting to a set state? Might be a good idea to keep students from overwriting preferences or tinkering with things that would add confusion for the next student using the machine. It can be done, but not so fun for beginners. And if you learn this way from the start you won’t have to readjust your habits later.Įmulate 3-Button Mouse is less intuitive, as you pointed out. ![]() I'll demonstrate the capabilities of both applications, leaving the decision of which one to use. Both are free downloads available from their corresponding developer's webpages, MagicPrefs operates as a Preference Pane while BetterTouchTool is a standalone app. On a related topic I would recommend teaching them with Emulate Numpad as default since many computers these days (and most modern Macs) do not have number pads. MagicPrefs operates as a Preference Pane while BetterTouchTool is a standalone app. It is wired (a wireless version exists but is more expensive and maybe harder to come by) but wired could be better in a classroom environment as you can secure it down. This $8 wired mouse is the best low-cost option I know of to recommend as I use it on my iMac and it has worked reliably. Honestly if you can afford to get some traditional 3-button mice for your class instead it would be better. Maybe if you can find a sticker of a plastic thin enough that the touch can be sensed through it it may work, but do usability testing before attempting this in a classroom or your students will end up frustrated. So, you could try putting a sticker at the top of the mouse in the middle button area to provide physical feedback but that’s kind of ghetto and remember you can’t block the touch sensor area on top without inhibiting functionality. I think this is why Apple did not include middle button functionality as a built-in option. But there is no way of quickly knowing when your finger is in the designated middle zone, so it’s easy to miss and click left or right instead when you don’t mean to. Left and right are easy because they’re spaced far enough apart and you can feel when your hand is at the left edge or right edge. So you can add a middle mouse button via a software add-on, however the problem lies in not having physical feedback as to where the middle mouse button is. They are quite handy apps (both free) and work as advertised. Of that list I have used MagicPrefs and Better Touch Tool. To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup. There is software to add more touch functionality to the Magic Mouse. positions of fingers on mouse, where fingers are and. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. You could get something like Better Touch Tool or Magic Prefs which opens up a variety of options i.e. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key. Safe Mode would disable any third-party plugins. If the hardware mouse didn't work, try is restarting the Mac in Safe Mode, and access Security & Privacy and see if it clicks from this Mode. Utilities or applications like MagicPrefs, Synergy, BetterTouchTool, HyperDock, etc., can be blocked from clicking "Allow." Try disabling them and see if there is any difference. Third-party applications that emulate mouse or trackpad functions are in-use There are many possible reasons why this won't allow a click, but here are some things to check for: In Security & Privacy, if you are blocked from clicking "Allow" for the HiDPI extension, this is most likely a MacOS/Gatekeeper issue. How do I install the HiDPI extension to enable retina?
